Putty Golf - iOS/Android

Putty is a mobile app I designed and developed in my free time over the course of a year. It's an augmented-reality putting app that focuses on real-time visual feedback to help golfers make better decisions. The idea spawned from my first-hand experience on the golf course, how putting is such a crucial part of the game.

Target & Challenge

The user base for this project consists of a diverse range of people anywhere from 16-40 years of age. We want to cater towards both the casual player-base and the hardcore. Needs for both groups are vastly different. Making sure we design a site that can serve these different groups is important.

Problems Solved

The first problem we needed to solve was getting the app to recognize where your golf ball is. We accomplished this by using 3D pins that can be placed using augmented-reality plane-detection. After the ball is marked, the user can either return to previous screen to visualize the shot with selected club, or, if putting, place another pin marking the hole.

Placing a 2nd pin on the hole

If the user has selected their putter, the same ux flow applies apart from a second pin being added. For best results, they mark their ball and the hole location on the green.

Outcomes &
Achievements

The UX study, basic branding, and a lo-fi prototype were developed over a couple months. Built to validate a user story, the prototype eventually helped myself to develop and release to iOS and Android platforms.
